Osteopathy and Sport
In sports, osteopathy focuses on the health and performance of athletes using all the techniques available to the osteopath.
Beyond the specifically biomechanical aspect – or rather, mechanological – linked to the locomotor system, to the cardio-respiratory system and to the injuries that athletes can suffer, osteopathy in sports takes care of the entire athlete as a person. His health, his injuries and his performance are anything but purely mechanical aspects, as the literature and the world of sports themselves are increasingly highlighting.
Stress management – which affects the autonomic nervous system and therefore the ability to manifest muscle power -, the state of nervous excitability, inflammation levels, internal bowel health and the functioning of metabolism are all central elements for an athlete, on which osteopathy can act through its many techniques.
To ensure a good balance between ortho- and parasympathetic as well as good lymphatic drainage, to help the athlete to develop good proprioception and interoception by acting at the articulatory, fascial and visceral levels are all results easily achievable by osteopathy thanks to the centrality of its vision of the person as a whole.
