Osteopathy and Gynecology

Osteopathy in gynecological field is concerned with managing the abdominal, pelvic and reproductive health of women, with particular attention to the success of pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding, as we now know that the beginning of life – the first 1000 days – can have an important effect on the balance between health and disease in adult life.

Thanks to his vision of the person as the union of body, mind and spirit, osteopathy in the gynecological field can help women to get “in contact” with their body, to better understand and manage problems related to the menstrual cycle, and to live better their pregnancy – a natural phenomenon too often “pathologized” by a reductionist vision that sees reproduction as separate from the rest of the person.

Nowadays several studies have reported the usefulness of osteopathy in improving health in case of chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea and endometriosis (to name a few). As a consequence, such results positively affect the affective state of women, by improving their mood and reducing depressive symptoms often associated with gynecological conditions and which significantly worsen their quality of life both at a personal and social level.
